GROUP CAPTAIN SELASE YAAYA AGBENYEFIA HANDS OVER COMMAND OF FLYING GROUP
Group Captain Selase Yaaya Agbenyefia has handed over the command of the Flying Group to Wing Commander Clara Oduro-Gyamfi during a handing and taking over ceremony on Friday, 16 January 2026 at the Air Force Base, Takoradi.
Group Captain Agbenyefia initially assumed command of Air Force Base Takoradi as Acting Base Commander on 26 November 2023 and was subsequently appointed Commander Flying Group, a position she held until her recent appointment as Director, Air Force Peace Support Operations.

In her farewell address, the outgoing Commander Flying Group described her service at Air Force Base Takoradi and the Flying Group as the most impactful period of her military career. She acknowledged that the Ghana Air Force and the Flying Group encountered several challenges during the period, notably the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of some aircrew. She, however, noted that despite the setback, personnel remained resilient and continued to discharge their duties with professionalism and dedication.
She advised leaders at all levels to promptly mediate and resolve conflicts among personnel to foster unity and strengthen esprit de corps. She further urged personnel to uphold safety standards and actively participate in periodic training programmes organised by the Flying Group to remain competent and operationally relevant.

Group Captain Agbenyefia expressed deep appreciation to personnel of the Flying Group for their loyalty, commitment, and unwavering support throughout her tenure. She assured them of her continued support and commitment to advancing the interests of Air Force Base Takoradi and the Flying Group at Higher Headquarters.

In her acceptance speech, the new Commander Flying Group, Wing Commander Clara Oduro-Gyamfi, commended her predecessor for her mentorship and dedication to upholding the standards of the Ghana Air Force, which she said had laid a solid foundation for continued progress. She noted that under the former Commander’s leadership, flying operations were conducted with a strong emphasis on safety and discipline.

She emphasised that flying operations require professionalism, teamwork, and strict adherence to Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), and encouraged personnel to continue upholding these values in line with Ghana Air Force doctrine. She thanked Higher Command for the confidence reposed in her and appealed for the continued support and cooperation of all personnel.

As a mark of appreciation, personnel of the Flying Group presented gifts to the outgoing Commander in recognition of her selfless leadership and dedicated service.

Present at the ceremony were the Commanding Officer, Number One Flying Wing, Wing Commander Archibald Nana Opoku, the Acting Commanding Officer, Number Eight Helicopter Wing, Squadron Leader Adinani Mahama as well as Officers, Airmen, and Defence Civilian Staff.
