MEMORIAL CUP HELD IN HONOUR OF LATE AIR COMMODORE PARKER

Air Force Base Takoradi has organised a memorial cup and fun games in honour of the late Air Commodore Godfried Sackey Parker at the Asamara Park on Friday 22 December 2023.  The event brought together personnel of the various Wings as well as Defence Civilian Staff who competed in various disciplines.

 

 

Speaking at the programme, the Flag Officer Fleet, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, who represented the 2 Garrison Commander, Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo, thanked the organisers for holding the games in honour of the departed Base Commander. He added that the memory of the late Base Commander will continue to guide, unite and inspire everyone in the pursuit of excellence.

 

 

Paying tribute to the memory of the late Base Commander, Commodore Ayelazono said Air Cdre GS Parker was a leader who exemplified the highest level of service, courage and unity. Moreover, his invaluable contribution to 2 Garrison had left an enduring mark on everyone and his welcoming personality will forever be missed.

 

 

 

 

The Commander Flying Group, Group Captain Selase Agbenyefia was delighted at the massive attendance of personnel and noted that it was a testament of the love and admiration they had for the late Base Commander. 

 

 

Some of the sporting disciplines organised were Inter-Wings male football competition, thug of war and Inter-Wings female penalty shoot-out. The Flying, Administration, Engineering and Supply Wings played soccer competitions among themselves which saw the Administration and Supply Wings qualifying for the finals. At the end of the final game, the Administration Wing won by a goal to nil.

 

 

Female personnel of the various Wings also competed among themselves in a penalty shoot-out with the Administration Wing winning the competition in that category.

 

 

The Air Wives Organisation (AWO) and Air ladies (Air Force female military personnel) also went head-to-head in a thug of war. The Air ladies emerged victorious in the end.

 

 

Trophies were presented to the Administration Wing male soccer team, the Administration  Wing female soccer team and Air ladies for their victory in each sporting discipline.
