EXERCISE TO TEST OPERATIONAL READINESS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE HELD AT TAMALE

A one-day Exercise code named EXERCISE TAHABU has been held at the Air Force Base, Tamale on Monday 13 November 2023.

 

The Exercise held in conjunction with the Ghana Airports Company Limited was designed to test the general operational readiness of military personnel and the preparedness of civil emergency response stakeholders in times of emergency. 

 

 

The scenario for the exercise was based on an aircraft hijack and bomb threat at the Tamale International Airport. This was to enable the various stakeholders harmonise responses while improving interoperability amongst all stakeholders to achieve synergy in emergency response.

 

 

Participants of the Exercise included, the Regional Security Council, 6 Infantry Battalion, 69 Airborne Force and the Ghana Police Service.  Others were the Ghana National Fire Service, National Investigation Bureau, National Disaster Management Organization, National Security and Commercial Airline Operators.

 

The Northern Regional Minister, Hon Alhassan Shani Shaibu who was present during the Exercise remarked that Exercises of such nature were timely and important due to the looming threats within the Sub-Region.  He assured all the security services of government’s commitment to equip them in the fight against those threats.

 

 

Base Commander, Air Force Base Tamale, Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai also stated that it was imperative for such exercises between the various stakeholders in order to corroborate contingency plans, develop competencies and test the capabilities of troops in a joint environment.
