A United States Government delegation, led by the Assistant Secretary of War for International Security Affairs, Office of the Under Secretary of War for Policy, Mr Daniel L Zimmerman, paid a courtesy call on the Base Commander, Air Force Base Tamale, Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi, on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

The visit reaffirmed the longstanding defence cooperation between Ghana and the United States and provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss areas of mutual interest aimed at further strengthening relations between the Ghana Air Force and the United States military.

Discussions centred on enhancing bilateral military cooperation, expanding professional military education and training opportunities and improving interoperability through joint exercises and capacity-building initiatives. The delegation and the Base Commander also exchanged views on regional security developments, counter-terrorism cooperation, intelligence sharing, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, aviation safety and logistics support.

Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi expressed appreciation to the United States Government for its continued support to the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly in the areas of training, equipment support and professional development. He noted that the longstanding partnership had contributed significantly to enhancing the operational readiness and capabilities of the Ghana Air Force.

Mr Zimmerman, for his part, reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to deepening its defence relationship with Ghana. He commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism and contribution to regional peace and security, expressing confidence that the cordial relations between the two countries would continue to grow for their mutual benefit.

He also commended Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi for his leadership, professionalism and contribution to strengthening cooperation with the United States military. He noted tha the positive accounts he had received about the Base Commander's leadership were consistent with what he had personally observed during their engagements.

Following Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi's announcement of his impending handover of command, Mr Zimmerman expressed the hope that the strong relationship between the United States military and Air Force Base Tamale would be sustained and further strengthened under the incoming Base Commander. He subsequently wished Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi success in his future endeavours.

Mr Zimmerman was accompanied by the Deputy Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), Lieutenant General John W. Brennan Jr, the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the United States Embassy in Ghana, Mr Rolf Olson and other officials from the Embassy.

Also present during the engagement were the Commander, Air Force Training Command, Air Commodore Richard Danso, and other Staff Officers from Air Force Base Tamale.
