In his remarks, the Director General Medical Services, Brig Gen Raymond Ewusi, thanked the Military High Command for making health care accessible to personnel.  He said the response to the increasing need for veterinary services to augment the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services (GAFMS) facilities across the country birthed the idea which to a large extent, strengthens their resolve to live up to  the ‘one health concept’.

He noted that similar projects would be implemented within the Central and Northern Commands of the Ghana Armed Forces. He urged the staff of the facility to put the facility to good use in order to meet its intended purpose.

On his part, the Commander, Air Force Base Takoradi, Air Commodore Godfried Sackey Parker, who delivered his speech on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe noted that, the increase in animal ownership both as pets and food and the change in disease patterns had led to the need for a more robust veterinary service to safeguard investments.

He stated that, to further enhance the image of the Armed Forces Veterinary Services, the Service had responded to the challenge of improving capacity in the surveillance, diagnosis, prevention and control of animal diseases in the Garrison. He mentioned that 2 Garrison was chosen as the first Garrison in the expansion drive and the Ghana Air Force supported by providing the Armed Forces Veterinary Services with a structure to serve as its operational base in Takoradi.
