The Ghana Air Force Special Operations Squadron (SOS) has successfully concluded a four-week Base Defence and Ground Security Course 2/2026 at Air Force Base Accra on Friday, 31 July 2026.

The course was designed to strengthen the operational readiness and enhance the professional military capabilities of personnel within the Ghana Air Force Special Operations Forces through intensive theoretical and practical training.

Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, the Chief Staff Officer at the Ghana Air Force Headquarters and Guest of Honour, Air Commodore Sophia Adzo Jiagge, described the exercise as a clear demonstration of the growing defence cooperation between the Ghana Air Force and the German Air Force.

Air Commodore Jiagge noted that such specialised training is essential in today's evolving security environment and expressed confidence that the knowledge and experience acquired would contribute significantly to building a more capable, professional and mission-ready Special Operations Squadron.

She further expressed appreciation to the German Air Force for its continued partnership and support, as well as the local instructors and participants for completing the course without any major injuries or incidents. She added that the programme had significantly enhanced the participants' proficiency in range practices, tactical operations and physical conditioning.

The European Union Military Adviser to Ghana, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas J F Nalbach, commended the participants for their professionalism, discipline and commitment throughout the training. He noted that the successful conduct of the course underscored the strong partnership between the Ghana Armed Forces and the European Union and fostered mutual trust and long-term cooperation in support of shared regional and global security objectives.

Lieutenant Colonel Nalbach further emphasised that the successful completion of the course should not be regarded as the end of their responsibility, but rather as another important milestone in their professional military careers. He encouraged the graduates to continually apply the knowledge and skills acquired and remain committed to excellence in the execution of their duties.

Earlier, the Course Coordinator, Squadron Leader Xorlali Leh, stated that the course involved 32 participants, comprising one officer and 31 airmen, and formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Ghana Air Force's base defence capabilities and prepare personnel to respond effectively to emerging and contemporary security threats.

He expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Air Staff, the Commander, Tactical Air Command, Bui, the Director Training at Air Force Headquarters, the Commander, Flying Group, Air Force Base Accra, the Ghana Air Force Aviation College, the German Air Force training team and all supporting units for their administrative, logistical and instructional support, which contributed to the successful execution of the course.
