PRESIDENT MAHAMA COMMENDS GHANA ARMED FORCES DURING SONA CEREMONY
The Ghana Air Force showcased precision, discipline and ceremonial excellence as it mounted a Guard of Honour for the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The ceremony took place at the forecourt of Parliament House on Friday, 27 February 2026, ahead of the delivery of the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The Guard of Honour, a time-honoured military tradition symbolising discipline, loyalty, and national pride, was mounted to formally receive the President upon his arrival to deliver the much-anticipated address. The annual statement remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic governance, providing the President with the platform to account to Parliament and the nation while outlining government priorities for the year.

During his address, President Mahama commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism and swift response in recent humanitarian and security operations. He praised the successful evacuation of injured Ghanaian traders following a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso, as well as the rescue of seventy-one (71) Ghanaian fishermen who had been attacked and left stranded by pirates at sea.

The President further reiterated his government’s commitment to retooling and modernising the Ghana Air Force to enhance operational readiness, strengthen national security, and improve rapid response capabilities in support of both domestic and regional peace and stability.
