Nana Nkanomako IV, Chief of Nkyekyer Grabodo and Krontihene of the Shama Traditional Area, has commended mothers for their resilience, love and commitment towards the upbringing of children and the development of society. He made these remarks during the climax of a three-day programme organised by the Air Force Base Takoradi Chapter of the Air Wives Organisation (AWO) from Friday, 8 to Sunday, 10 May 2026.

Speaking during the Mother’s Day celebration held at the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ (SNCO) Mess, Nana Nkanomako IV encouraged mothers to continue instilling discipline and good moral values in their children while remaining pillars of support to their families. He further urged families to appreciate and support mothers beyond the annual Mother’s Day celebrations in recognition of the sacrifices they continually make for the wellbeing of their homes and society.

The three-day programme was organised to promote healthy living, strengthen family bonds and celebrate mothers within the military community. Activities commenced on Friday, 8 May 2026, with a health education and motivational session held at the Junior Ranks Mess. Discussions focused on key health issues affecting women and families, including family planning, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and general family health management.

Facilitators for the session included, the Principal Public Health Officer at Jubilee Catholic Church Hospital, Mrs Eva Love Joy Hornyenugah, Nursing Officer at the 2nd Medical Reception Station, Mrs Audrey Asumang and the Senior Community Health Nurse at the Air Force Medical Centre, Mrs Joana Timbilla. The speakers educated participants on the importance of healthy lifestyles, regular medical check-ups, and preventive healthcare practices.

As part of the activities, members of the association embarked on a recreational trip on Saturday, 9 May 2026, to Marha Beach Resort and later visited the Naval Base at Ezinlibo. The excursion provided members the opportunity to relax, socialise and strengthen relationships through various recreational activities including volleyball, swimming, ludu, oware, sightseeing, and optional boat rides.

The programme concluded on Sunday, 10 May 2026, with a thanksgiving service and Mother’s Day lunch held at St Ignatius Catholic Church, Air Force Base Takoradi, followed by fellowship among members at the SNCO Mess in honour of mothers for their sacrifices, dedication and invaluable contributions to their families and the military community.
