MWO BAWA ABDULAI BOWS OUT WITH HONOUR AS SWOI EDWARD AMPONSEM TAKES OVER

Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Bawa Abdulai has officially handed over his appointment as the Master Air Warrant Officer (MAWO) of the Ghana Air Force to Senior Warrant Officer Class I (SWOI) Edward Amponsem at a handing and taking over ceremony held at the Air Force Headquarters on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.

 

 

In his address, the Acting Chief of the Air Staff, Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi, speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, paid glowing tribute to MWO Bawa Abdulai for his distinguished service to the Ghana Air Force and the Republic of Ghana. He noted that throughout his military career, MWO Abdulai had demonstrated unwavering loyalty, professionalism, discipline and exceptional commitment to duty.

 

 

The Acting Chief of the Air Staff further stated that MWO Abdulai had contributed immensely to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and morale within the Ghana Air Force. He observed that the outgoing MAWO's tenure was characterised by humility, dedication to duty, and an enduring commitment to the welfare and professional development of Airmen and Airwomen.

 

 

Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi also congratulated SWOI Edward Amponsem on his appointment as the new Master Air Warrant Officer. He remarked that the appointment was a testament to his professionalism, competence, and dedication to service, adding that the office of the MAWO carries enormous responsibility and high expectations.

 

 

The Chief Staff Officer at the Air Force Headquarters, Air Commodore Sophia Adzo Jiagge, in her remarks, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing MAWO, MWO Bawa Abdulai, whose tenure, she said, had been marked by exemplary leadership, dedication and steadfast service.

 

 

She warmly welcomed SWOI Edward Amponsem as he assumed the role of Master Air Warrant Officer of the Ghana Air Force and expressed confidence in his ability to build upon the solid foundation laid by his predecessor while supporting the vision and strategic direction of the Chief of the Air Staff.

 

 

In his farewell address, MWO Bawa Abdulai reflected on his tenure and the progress achieved during his stewardship. He expressed deep gratitude to senior officers, both serving and retired, as well as his colleagues, for their unwavering support. He also commended the dedication, professionalism and resilience of the personnel under his leadership.

 

 

He stated that after thirty years of dedicated service in the Ghana Air Force, it had been a singular honour to serve as the Master Air Warrant Officer, a position he had held for three years, two months and sixteen days. According to him, the appointment represented the pinnacle of his military career.

 

 

MWO Abdulai further noted that serving as the senior-most Non-Commissioned Officer in the Ghana Air Force, being the voice of Airmen and Airwomen and contributing to the discipline, welfare and professional standards of personnel had been both a great responsibility and a profound honour.

 

 

He congratulated SWOI Edward Amponsem on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to discharge the responsibilities of the office with distinction. He stated that as he formally handed over the mantle of leadership, he did not doubt that his successor would carry it with dedication, wisdom and confidence.

 

 

The ceremony was climaxed with the presentation of a citation and gifts of appreciation to the outgoing MAWO in recognition of his meritorious service to the Ghana Air Force.

 

 

 

 

The event was attended by the Former Chief of the Defence Staff and a member of the council of state, Air Marshal Michael Samson-Oje(rtd), the Former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe(rtd), the Director General Policy, General Headquarters (Chief of Staff), Air Commodore Thomas Niifio Okai.

 

 

In attendance was also the Director General, Defence Civilian Establishment, Brigadier General Christopher Yaw Dagadu, the Commander, Air Force Logistic Command, Air Commodore Samuel Benjamin Offei, the Acting Chief Staff Officer AFHQ, Air Commodore Sophia Adzo Jiagge, senior military officers, soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff.
