KNUST STRENTHENS COLLABORATION WITH GHANA AIR FORCE

A four (4) member delegation from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have visited the Air Force Headquarters on Thursday 17 August 2023. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the existing collaboration between the two institutions in the area of Aerospace Engineering.

The delegation led by the Provost of the College of Engineering, Professor Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko first paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe in his office. The CAS welcomed them and stated that the visit was timely because the Air Force was in the process of establishing the Ghana Air Force Aviation College and also seeking accreditation for the School of Trades Training (S of TT). He thus welcomed the collaborative efforts at building a mutually beneficial relationship between the two institutions.

Professor KB Nyarko expressed his gratitude to the Air Force for the support in training students on internship at the S of TT. He indicated that the school currently has a student population of about 11,000 but due to limited resources, they were unable to harness their full potentials.

He therefore called for more support in the areas of providing practical training and implementing joint projects to address real life situations among others. He added, that the collaborative efforts will enable the students to gain practical knowledge at the S of  TT in the aerospace industry and enhance their employability.

The CAS assured them of the support of the Ghana Air Force to meet their training requirements while he also called for assistance for the S of TT.  He said training was critical in delivering the mandate of the Ghana Air Force. Thus, he was optimistic the two institutions could collaborate to enhance their individual expectations.

Present at the meeting were, the Deputy Chief Staff Officer Policy and Plans, Air Commodore Albert Addei, Commander Air Force Training Command, Air Commodore Mathias Awuah and some Directors at the Air Force Headquarters.

Accompanying the Provost of the College of Engineering were, Prof GY Obeng, Dean, Faculty of Mech and Chemical Engineering, Prof PY Andoh, Head, Dept of Mechanical Engineering and Ing Peter Oppong Tawiah, Chair, Aerospace Engineering Programme.
