The Ghana Air Force actively participated in the 4th edition of the International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC), held on 8 and 9 July 2025 at the Burma Hall, Burma Camp, Accra.
This year’s event brought together over 200 delegates from 25 countries, including Chiefs of Navies, industry experts, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and more than 40 exhibitors from across Africa and beyond. The conference was held under the theme: “Securing Africa’s Maritime Future: Collaboration, Technology and Sustainability in a Changing Geopolitical Landscape.”
Leading the Ghana Air Force delegation in attendance was the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, who toured the exhibition stands and engaged with key stakeholders. The Ghana Air Force’s exhibition showcased its pivotal role in maritime security operations, aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, and joint inter-agency missions aimed at safeguarding Ghana’s territorial waters.
In his opening address, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, stressed the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing emerging maritime threats such as piracy, illegal fishing, and marine pollution, which challenge security in the Gulf of Guinea. He emphasized that IMDEC 2025 provided a platform to discuss and devise sustainable solutions to these threats, stating that securing Africa’s maritime domain demands practical and sustained strategies, including enhanced inter-agency coordination, intelligence sharing, and the adoption of modern technologies.
The Chief of Staff to the President of Ghana, Honour, Honourable Julius Debrah, who was the Guest of Honour reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening the Ghana Navy and other security institutions to effectively counter the dynamic threats in the region.
