The Ghana Air Force Aviation College (GHAFAC) has commenced the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCO) Leadership Course 1/2026 to strengthen the leadership skills, discipline, professional competence and operational effectiveness of personnel within the Ghana Armed Forces.
The course began on Monday, 25 May 2026, at Air Force Base Accra, with a total of 40 participants, comprising 38 personnel drawn from various Air Force Bases and one participant each from the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Army.

The Course Coordinator, Flight Lieutenant Julius Avenyor, noted that the eight-week course will expose participants to leadership studies, military law, communication skills, administration, management, operational planning, service writing and emerging security challenges.

He emphasised that training activities will include lectures, syndicate discussions, practical exercises, presentations and continuous assessments and urged participants to remain disciplined, punctual and committed throughout the training programme.

On his part, the Guest of Honour and Commanding Officer of the Air Force Leadership Academy, Wing Commander Alexander Gyekye, underscored the critical role SNCOs play in maintaining discipline, operational effectiveness and professional standards within the Ghana Armed Forces.

He noted that the modern security challenges require leaders who are disciplined, adaptable, knowledgeable and capable of making sound decisions under pressure and their selection for the course reflect the confidence their commanders have in their leadership potential and professional abilities.

Wing Commander Gyekye reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to the continuous development of its personnel for higher leadership responsibilities, reiterating the institution’s commitment to professional military education and leadership development.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity by improving themselves academically, professionally, physically and morally. He reminded them that leadership is founded on responsibility, service and personal example rather than authority alone.

He cautioned that the participants would be assessed not only on academic performance but also on discipline, teamwork, leadership qualities and overall conduct throughout the course.
