Students of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Junior Staff Course 86 paid a familiarisation visit to the Air Force Headquarters (AFHQ) on Friday, 7 August 2026.

The visit formed part of the Course's efforts to broaden participants' understanding of the roles, functions and operational capabilities of the Ghana Air Force, as well as its collaboration with the Ghana Army, Ghana Navy and other security agencies in safeguarding Ghana's territorial integrity and national security.

As part of the visit, the participants received a comprehensive operational briefing at the AFHQ Operations Room, which serves as a key centre for monitoring, coordinating and supporting Ghana Air Force operations.

The briefing highlighted the diverse roles of the Ghana Air Force, including the protection of Ghana's territorial airspace, the conduct of Very Very Important Person (VVIP) flights, medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), aerial surveillance, as well as support to civil authorities during national emergencies and disaster relief operations.

Participants were also briefed on the Ghana Air Force's collaboration with the other Services and security agencies in responding to emerging security threats, national emergencies and other contingencies requiring a coordinated response.

The familiarisation visit provided the participants with valuable insights into the operational capabilities and command structure of the Ghana Air Force, while enhancing their appreciation of the strategic importance of air power and joint operations in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Following their engagement at the Air Force Headquarters, the participants proceeded to the Army Headquarters and Naval Headquarters, where they received similar briefings on the operational roles and capabilities of the Ghana Army and Ghana Navy in safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ghana.
