CDS OUTLINES HIS VISION FOR GHANA ARMED FORCES

Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, recently appointed Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has outlined his vision for the Ghana Armed Forces. His vision is to establish an Armed Forces which is highly motivated, well trained and well equipped with quality officers and soldiers to be able to perform any assigned task. 

 

 

 

Speaking at an All Ranks durbar with personnel of 1 and 5 Garrison at the Burma Hall on Friday 22 March 2024, Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah highlighted three key thematic areas which are motivation, training and equipping as the strategies he intends to adopt to achieve this vision.

 

 

 

He mentioned that leadership entails teamwork in ensuring that challenges within any institution are solved. Therefore, through the collective efforts of all ranks, GAF is set to witness significant advancements which include the procurement of armored vehicles for newly established Forward Operating Bases, the acquisition of fast patrol boats to enhance the maritime capabilities of the Ghana Navy, and collaboration with aircraft manufacturing organisations to acquire attack aircraft for the Ghana Air Force.

 

 

The CDS also highlighted on several upcoming projects to improve upon the welfare of personnel and make GAF more effective and efficient in executing any assigned task in line with the vision.

 

 

Furthermore, on welfare matters, the CDS mentioned that plans were far advanced to resource military hospitals to enable them to administer good healthcare and the establishment of a school for personnel with children with special needs.

 

 

Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah also used the occasion to commend GAF sports personnel for winning medals at the various sports disciplines representing Ghana at the 13th African Games.
