AIR FORCE TEAM PARTAKES IN SUPER VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

A volleyball tournament dubbed ‘Super Volleyball Championship’ made up of 7 teams took place at the Ghana International School (GIS) from Tuesday 19 to Friday 23 December.

 

The participating teams comprising male and female categories were drawn from the Greater Accra Volleyball Association and included the Ghana Air Force, Ghana Army, Ghana Police, Ghana Prisons, Ghana Immigration, El Wak Wings and Immanuel Presby Church Madina. 

 

 

 

For the Men’s category, the Air Force team played against the Ghana Prisons and the score was 3:1 in their favour. They moved on to triumph over Ghana Army to book a place in the Semi-finals. Unfortunately, the men’s team lost to El Wak Wings at the Semis’ and for the last game, lost to Ghana Army to settle for the fourth position.  

 

 

 

The women’s team however made it to the finals, beating teams such as Ghana Immigration, El Wak Wings, and Ghana Police. At the finals, the Air Force Women’s team lost to Ghana Army and claimed the second position.

 

 

 

At the end of the tournament, Leading Aircraftman Benedicta Mawuse Akorli was awarded the Best Opposite Player for the women’s category.

 

 

 

Speaking at the event, Volleyball enthusiast and organiser of the tournament, Mr Mohammed Awudu Aputeog commended all the participating teams for their spectacular display of sportsmanship. He added that the event has allowed players to showcase their talent and was hopeful that most of them would receive national team call-ups and make significant progress in their career.

 

 

 

Mr Mohammed Awudu Aputeog thanked all and sundry for their support in making the event a success and hoped for a more captivating and intensive competition next year.
