Personnel of Air Force Base Takoradi have participated in the National General Cleaning Exercise on Friday, 10 July 2026, in support of the Government's efforts to improve environmental sanitation and mitigate flooding in affected communities across the country.

The exercise formed part of a nationwide initiative declared by the Government under the auspices of the Post-Flood Mitigation Committee, which designated Friday 10 and Saturday 11 July 2026 as National General Cleaning Days in seven flood-affected regions. The exercise was conducted under the theme, "Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana after the Floods."

The Western Regional Minister, Hon Joseph Nelson, who joined personnel and other stakeholders during the exercise, commended participants for their commitment to the national cause. He emphasised that sanitation was a shared responsibility and called on residents to support government efforts by adopting proper waste disposal practices and keeping their surroundings clean. He noted that indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains and waterways remained one of the major causes of flooding and urged citizens to change their attitudes towards environmental cleanliness.

Personnel of the Base, together with other security agencies, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly officials, and waste management personnel, engaged in sweeping, clearing refuse, desilting choked drains, and removing weeds and debris from designated areas within the metropolis. The exercise was aimed at facilitating the free flow of water and preventing flooding during the rainy season.

The participation of Air Force Base Takoradi in the exercise demonstrates the Ghana Armed Forces' commitment to national development and community service. It also reinforced the government's message that collective action and individual responsibility were essential in building a cleaner, healthier, and safer Ghana for future generations.
