AIR FORCE ATHLETES SHINE AT NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

Air Force personnel with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Athletics Team delivered an outstanding performance by winning medals at the 2nd National Open Championship held on Saturday, 11 April 2026 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.

 

 

Leading Aircraftman Shaibu Marizuk and Leading Aircraftman Kudjo Michael all from the Air Force Base Accra, clinched first place in the 200 metres and 100 metres events respectively, while Leading Aircraftman Bugase Rexford also placed first in discus. Their remarkable achievements highlighted the strength and competitiveness of Air Force athletes on the national stage.

 

 

In all, the Ghana Armed Forces team competed across 18 events and amassed an impressive total of 21 medals, made up of 10 gold, six silver and five bronze medals.

 

 

Commending the athletes, the Director of Physical Training and Sport for GAF, Colonel Richard Akoto, praised their dedication and discipline. He noted that the strong synergy between the coaches and athletes was instrumental in achieving such success. He further assured of continued support from management, especially as preparations intensify towards the upcoming Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games.

 

 

The championship brought together athletes from various security agencies, including the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana Police Service, as well as competitors from tertiary and second-cycle institutions.
