AFB TAKORADI COMMENCES DIAMOND DA-42 TYPE-RATING COURSE
The Air Force Base (AFB) Takoradi has commenced a Type-Rating Course for the Diamond DA-42 aircraft with an opening ceremony held on Monday, 27 October 2025. The five-week programme, organised by the Ghana Air Force Aviation College, brings together 17 participants drawn from various bases and units of the Ghana Air Force, supported by 10 instructors with diverse engineering expertise.

In his opening remarks, the Base Commander, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, reaffirmed the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong’s vision for the Ghana Air Force to evolve into a technologically relevant and mission-ready force capable of defending Ghana’s airspace against all threats, supporting national development, and contributing to regional security through highly motivated personnel committed to excellence and professionalism.

He noted that the course was carefully structured in line with this vision to provide comprehensive, high-quality training that equips personnel with both the theoretical understanding and practical competencies required to effectively operate and maintain the Diamond DA-42 aircraft.
Air Commodore Yirenkyi further emphasised that the course holds immense significance not only for the engineering fraternity but also in enhancing the overall operational efficiency and mission effectiveness of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The Commanding Officer of the Engineering Wing, Squadron Leader Anthony Kofi Jim-Fugar, highlighted that the programme offers participants an in-depth blend of classroom instruction and practical application, designed to enable them to perform both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in accordance with regulatory and manufacturer standards.

He encouraged participants to approach the training with dedication, discipline, and focus, stressing that successful completion would qualify them as type-rated personnel on the DA-42 aircraft, a milestone that directly contributes to the Ghana Air Force’s pursuit of engineering excellence and sustained mission readiness.
