74TH COMMONWEALTH DAY COMMEMORATED

In a ceremony rich in symbolism and shared heritage, Ghana joined other Commonwealth member states in commemoraating the 74th Commonwealth Day with a flag-raising ceremony at the forecourt of the State House on Monday, 9 March 2026.

 

 

Personnel of the Ghana Air Force participated in the event, which featured the ceremonial hoisting of the flags of the Commonwealth and Ghana, symbolising the enduring ties of friendship, cooperation and shared values among member nations.

 

 

The theme of the occasion, “unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous commonwealth” featured honoured guests, including the British High Commissioner, His Excellency Christian Rogg, who delivered a speech on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III, the Head of the Commonwealth. In his address, Commissioner Rogg emphasised on the values of cooperation, shared history, and mutual respect that underpin the Commonwealth community.

 

 

Adding to the significance of the day, the Minister for Interior, Hon Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, also addressed the audience, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to the principles established by the Commonwealth. His remarks celebrated the shared aspirations of member countries towards peace, democracy, and development.

 

 

He also stated that Ghana remains determined to strengthen democratic governance to promote human rights, empower the youth and advocate for sustainable development.

 

 

The event was well-attended by dignitaries, members of the Armed forces, and citizens, reflecting the collective spirit of the Commonwealth.
