6 GARRISON PARTAKES IN GREEN GHANA DAY

The 6 Garrison Commander, Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai together with other dignitaries have planted trees to commemorate the 4th edition of the 2024 Green Ghana Day Project in Tamale. This year, the Garrison planted over 3000 seedlings of various species of trees which included Acacia, Mango, Coconut, Orange, Teak, Cashew and Mahogany.

 

 

Addressing troops before the planting ceremony, the Garrison Commander, Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai stated that, research showed Ghana lost about 24% of its tree cover hence the need to replant more. He further averred that the 6 Garrison had played a vital role in the tree planting project since its inception in 2021 and will continue to support the initiative.

 

 

The Green Ghana Day Project was instituted by the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to create enhanced awareness of the necessity for collective action towards restoration of degraded landscape in the country. This also includes mitigating the effects of global climate change as well as inculcating the values of planting and nurturing trees and its associated benefits.

 

 

Present at the ceremony were the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, Commander Air Force Training Command, Air Commodore Mathias Awuah, Commanding Officer 69 Airborne Force, Lieutenant Colonel LY Boakye, Commanding Officer 6 Infantry Battalion, Lt Colonel Jerry Yao Ankuyi, Senior Officers, Officers, Airmen and Defence Civilian Staff of the 6 Garrison.
