6 GARRISON HOLDS ORIENTATION ON GAF GENDER TRAINING MANUAL
The 6 Garrison has hosted an orientation on the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Gender Training Manual at the Barwah Barracks Methodist Presbyterian Church on Thursday, 12 February 2026. The programme sought to standardise the delivery of gender-related content across the Armed Forces, ensuring that gender advisors, focal persons and instructors operate with maximum efficiency and consistency.
The Gender Advisor to the Chief of the Air Staff, Group Captain Francisca La-Anyane during her presentation remarked that the implementation of the GAF Gender Policy in March 2024 has significantly enhanced the institution’s international standing. Addressing common misconceptions, Group Captain La-Anyane clarified that gender mainstreaming is not a matter of preferential treatment. Rather, she defined it as the establishment of institutional systems that recognize, respect and promote equality to ultimately bolster operational capability. She noted that men and women are here to complement one another, asserting that individual merit and diverse abilities are the primary drivers for the advancement of the Ghana Armed Forces and society.

The orientation served as a platform to advocate for the removal of stereotypes and unconscious biases. It was highlighted that gender perspectives be integrated into training programmes at every level of the GAF hierarchy. Participants were guided through the relevance of gender mainstreaming within GAF, an overview of the GAF gender policy, challenges as well as mitigation strategies and a technical walkthrough on the use of the GAF Gender Training Manual.

The event was attended by the Gender Advisor at the Northern Command Headquarters, officers, soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff and students from the 6 Garrison Basic Schools.
