Twenty-five (25) Air Force cadets were among the 163 graduating officer cadets commissioned into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as part of Regular Career Course 63 at the Ghana Military Academy on Friday 11 April 2025.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the GAF, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Defence, Honourable Edward Omane Boamah, Traditional Leaders as well as serving and retired senior military officers.
In his keynote address, President Mahama congratulated the newly commissioned officers and urged them to serve the nation with utmost dedication and professionalism. He mentioned that his administration will do all it can to help establish the National Defence University which would allow the Ghana Armed Forces explore and facilitate extensive teaching and learning towards a more robust national defence and security. This he said would mean that officers would graduate with a post graduate diploma.
President Mahama pledged to allocate resources to complete ongoing infrastructural projects at the Military Academy to improve training facilities for cadets.
Noting the rising security threats in the sub-region, he called on citizens to support security agencies in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity. He commended the military for their sacrifices, particularly in conflict areas like Bawku and assured them of improved equipment and logistics.
The President stated that, Ghana’s peacekeeping operations would be streamlined in line with United Nations standards to maximize efficiency and reflect the country’s commitment to global peace.
On the infrastructural front, President Mahama mentioned that, his administration would focus on the construction of new accommodation facilities and refurbish dilapidated and abandoned facilities across the garrisons.
In a related development, the Commander-in-Chief stated that, his administration would establish the Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme; an initiative which will provide Officers and Soldiers the opportunity to own their private homes.
