2 GARRISON WIVES ORGANISE INDEPENDENCE DAY FUN GAMES

The Asmara Park at Air Force Base Takoradi came alive with excitement and laughter on Friday, 6 March 2026, as wives of personnel from 2 Garrison gathered for a series of fun games to commemorate Ghana’s Independence Day celebration.

The colourful event brought together wives from various service associations within the garrison to participate in recreational and competitive activities aimed at promoting unity, camaraderie and healthy living.

The programme was graced by the Base Commander of Air Force Base Takoradi, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, whose presence added prestige to the occasion.

In her remarks, the Patron of the 2 Garrison Wives, Mrs Susanna Yirenkyi, stated that the gathering was not only to mark Ghana’s independence but also to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation among the wives of military personnel within the garrison.

She explained that events of this nature provide an opportunity for members to interact, relax and build stronger relationships, which ultimately contribute to the welfare and harmony of their families and the garrison community.

Mrs Yirenkyi further noted that as Ghana celebrates another year of independence, it is important for citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made by the nation’s forebears in securing the nation’s freedom. She therefore encouraged participants to remain proud citizens and continue contributing meaningfully to national development.

The games brought together members of the Army Wives Association (AWA), Air Wives Organisation (AWO) and Naval Wives Association (NAWA), fostering friendship and cooperation among the different service families.

Participants competed in a variety of fun activities, creating an atmosphere of excitement and laughter as they cheered one another on throughout the games. The event served as a memorable platform for strengthening social bonds and celebrating Ghana’s independence within the military community.
